This was intended to be a relatively short leg, but I took the scenic route, instead – Highway 31 to Highway 22 to Empire, then across. Based on a recommendation by Mindy Fernandes, I visited the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, but apparently failed to find the dunes themselves. I may try to find them today before heading to Marquette. I am curious how they compare to the Great Sand Dunes of my home state, Colorado.
Traverse City is a beautiful town with quite a few nice breweries, and I managed to find time to visit a few of them. 🙂 Jolly Pumpkin has a neat facility about ten miles north of town, and Mackinaw Brewing, The Workshop, and North Peak were all nice, too.
