Sabbatical 2015 – Around the Great Lakes

Day Nine: Montréal, Québec

I had to leave very early to get to the Montreal airport in time to pick up Amy – so early, in fact, that the parking garage wasn’t open yet. Thankfully, when I pushed the call button, someone opened the gate eventually so I could leave – and didn’t have to pay, I guess.

We stayed in the Latin Quarter of Montreal, near the University of Quebec-Montreal. That was a vibrant area of town, with a lot of interesting places to see – and a lot of brew houses. We started with Saint-Houblon for lunch, then visited Le Saint-Bock (my favorite of the night, in part because of the sheer number of beers on tap), 3 Brasseurs, L’Amere a Boire, Le Cheval Blanc, and finally an Irish pub, Patrick’s Pub. This was my least planned night of the trip, too. Most of these we just came across!

Leaving Montreal, I learned that you cannot turn right on red, even when not posted (unlike, it appears, the rest of Quebec). Thankfully, I just got a warning, not a ticket!
