Sabbatical 2015 – Around the Great Lakes

Day Ten: Rivière-du-Loup, Québec

We awoke much earlier yesterday than intended, as the alarm in our room was set to 5 AM (not by us!). We did manage to sleep a little more, but that was not a great start to the day.

We drove Highway 40 to Quebec City, a slightly longer route but one that looked to be more scenic. The trees are definitely beginning to turn, and it was a very scenic drive.

We stopped in Quebec City for lunch and to visit with our dear friends Patrick Roberge and Jean-Simon Deschenes. Patrick took us on a walking tour of old Quebec City, then to lunch in Ciel, a rotating restaurant at the top of a skyscraper near old Quebec City that provided a fantastic view of the city. Quebec City will also be the site of the 2016 JCI World Congress, which promises to be a great one! Both Patrick and Jean-Simon have been to many, many World Congress and Area Conferences, and are determined to not repeat the mistakes and annoyances they’ve experienced at previous events.

From there, it was another two hour drive to Riviere-du-Loup, a fairly small town of just under 20,000. Dinner was at l’Estaminent (great atmosphere, great food and a great beer list), followed by a visit to the local brewery, Aux Fous Brassant.
